hi !

hi, i'm new here and would like to introduce myself.
my name is janice valentine i have 3 kids and live in scotland.

my oldest son is struggling badly at school and always has. he is 12.

a special needs teacher asked me to get him checked, with his doctor 2 years ago, the doctor wasn't interested and passed it back to the school, who basically said there was nothing wrong.

i know there is something but not sure what.

i have narrowed it down to capd or aspergers. but i am no expert.

look forward to reading some topics on here to see if it can shed a light on what the problem is.

Re: hi !

Welcome Janny!  There was just a thread in another area about his, so you might want to look around the board for that.  Feel free to post, answer, and vent when you need to.  We will all undestand and have an ear to listen.

Re: hi !

Hello,

My son is 14. Is anyone having the amount of stress I am with teachers and administration not taking this disability seriously and constant digs like "your child just needs to be more responsible"(and this only scratches the surface of what I have been up against) even after a diagnosis is made and a 504 plan put in place? And, now, I had to contact the school board because I was being told that I was misreading the 504 plan. Well, I wasn't and now they are, as of last Friday, complying but with hesitation and a few more emails of "he needs to be responsible" even after contacting the school board and giving the school all the material to read.  Well, I am glad to have the emails because without getting into detail, I have had to call an attorney. Wow. I am a single mom and really have no support. I want to start a campaign. My local news station said they would do a story if I could find others in the same boat. I also found out that the State of Minnesota has a CAPD awarness day on April 9th. They started this last year. Let me know if CAPD has ever been on the news or a news story done or if anyone is interested in putting something together. And let me know if anyone is from Tampa, Fl. if that is ok.
