About apdUS.org

apdUS was created by Bonnie Landau Weed, a mother who has walked the path of figuring out her son had central auditory processing disorder.

After 3 years of special education and speech therapy for her son, nobody had an answer as to why he did not answer questions, or why he had a speech delay to begin with. Suddenly put into general education Kindergarten, he developed an attention problem that never appeared before. Initially reading about CAPD in an article, she was convinced the symptoms matched those of her son, but nobody else was as convinced.

As her son was already in special education, auditory processing was brought up in IEP meetings. But the school specialists refused to listen. So began a journey of research, discovery and understanding, and finally it led to an audiologist who would test a 6-1/2 year old child. The tests showed without a doubt that her son had a severe auditory processing issue.

apdUS was initially created as a support site in hopes that it would shortcut the journey that parents or adults take in the discovery process around CAPD. It has now evolved into an organization, the goals of which are to raise awareness of APD and education and support those effected by this disorder.

A diagnosis of APD is not an endpoint.

Much can be done to remediate or accommodate the symptoms.

Understanding, patience and persistence are your greatest tools.
