Reading Programs for Auditory Processing Disorder

Children who have difficulty hearing or reading sounds within words have weak phonemic awareness. This issue causes challenges in phonological processing, which often shows up as reading, spelling and organization of words. Children with CAPD often face these challenges, and learning to read is huge hurdle. Some reading programs assist children in learning how to decipher and recognize phonemes, which in turn gives them the tools to learn how to read.

The chart below gives a brief description of some of the more popular reading programs.

Easy Read System

DURATION:15 minutes per day for 6-18 months (depends on child)

RESEARCH: No formal research but about to complete a formal research study done in a school.

The Easyread System is an Internet training prorgram for children who struggle with reading. Each child has an individual account on the system and logs on every day for a 5-15 minute lesson. Easyread uses visual imagery to help the visual learner get to grips with phonics.

We normally expect to see a new attitude to reading from day 1 and a leap in confidence over the next 3 weeks. Our aim is to get "reading takeoff" for the child in 6-18 months.

Every child is able to do a trial lesson and we give an unconditional guarantee. So you take no financial risk when you try Easyread. Visit our website to find out more about causes of reading difficulty in children.

The Science Behind Easy Read

Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) Program

DURATION:Varies by individual.

RESEARCH: Not much research has been done, but one formal study showed significant results.

The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) Program successfully stimulates phonemic awareness. Individuals become aware of the mouth actions which produce speech sounds. This awareness becomes the means of verifying sounds within words and enables individuals to become self-correcting in reading and spelling, and speech. It is common for individuals to gain several grade levels in decoding ability in four weeks to six weeks of intensive instruction, or to make further gains in speech-language after hitting a plateau under traditional speech therapy.
